The re-release of the Elliott Smith documentary Heaven Adores You is set to include a number of previously unheard tracks by the Nebraska native. Originaly released in 2014 at the San Francisco International Film Festival, the documentary is scheduled to premiere later this year nationwide. The film's producer Kevin Moyer, a friend of the late "Needle in the Hay" singer, shared details about the soundtrack's progress earlier this week.

"I spent a lot of time on the song selection and sequence order so that it is hopefully a balance between rough and polished works, early and late career compositions, instrumental and vocals," Moyer explained in statement to The A.V. Club. Currently featuring a total of 20 songs by Smith, the final film will only feature "four or five." Planning to include what he refers to as "young tracks" from Smith's career in chronological order, the filmmaker's approach in crafting the soundtrack for Heaven Adores You appears to be as earnest as it is artful.

"I think it also symbolically represents the world that we live in now too," Moyer said. "A world of music where Elliott's voice is missing... So hopefully we can keep him and his memory alive through the movie and of course his music too."

An official announcement in regards to the soundtrack's release date and complete track list is planned for the forthcoming weeks. Much like the recently applauded Kurt Cobain documentary Montage Of Heck, the forthcoming cinematic homage to the indie folk star is bound to increase the singer-songwriter's already massive fan base.

At last bringing together Smith's masters which were divided between Universal and Kill Rock Star, Nickolas Rossi's film along with Moyer's soundtrack will offer viewers an intimate glimpse into the history and life of the beloved performer.
