Kygo's meteoric rise has been nothing short than remarkable. The Norwegian producer went from making Avicii-like piano house tracks a few years ago to championing his own style of tropical house that has allowed to tour the world, soundtrack commercials and rack up some mind boggling play counts in very short periods of time. Now he a new achievement to add to his collection - the fastest artist to eclipse the one billion play mark on Spotify ever.

Named the streaming service's breakout artist of 2015, he achieved the feat of one billion streams in just a year.

"Reaching this milestone in such a short period of time is really incredible and I'd like to say thank you to each and every person who streamed one of my songs this past year. I'm so happy people have enjoyed listening to my tracks and I can't wait to share my album with you all early next year," says Kygo in a statement.

A lot of those streams come primarily from a few sources. His single "Firestone," which got some pretty big syncs, has been played 336 million times, while "Stole The Show" racked up another 305 million streams.

Now that Kygo has surpassed one billion streams, he the 20th most streamed artist on the service, with 14 million monthly listeners.

"Kygo is one of the first artists to break world-wide via streaming," says Edgar Berger, chairman and CEO International, Sony Music Entertainment to the Wall Street Journal. "[That] speaks volumes to the unique ways global streaming services are borderless."

His most recent single "Stay," which was released on Dec. 4, has already amassed a play count of over 4 million.

With his incredibly strong fan base that only grows bigger each day on Spotify, expect those numbers to continue to grow. Kygo plans on releasing his debut artist album in 2016.
