For the past few days, the entertainment industry has been engaged in a debate on whether or not black actors should boycott the Oscars. Actress turned turned political pundit Stacey Dash recently chimed in and offered up an interesting perspective. During an appearance on Fox & Friends, Dash called for elimination of the BET Awards and the recognition of Black History Month. The BET Network promptly responded to Dash’s proposition.

On Wednesday (Jan. 20), Dash spoke with Steve Doocy and addressed the ongoing outrage over the lack of minority nominees in major categories. She then shifted focus onto BET and other annual award shows that celebrate the accomplishments of black entertainers and athletes.

"I think it's ludicrous," Dash said. "We have to make up our minds. Either we want to have segregation or integration, and if we don’t want segregation, then we have to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards and the Image Awards, where you’re only awarded if you’re black. If it were the other way around, we’d be up in arms. It’s a double standard."

The Clueless star even went as far as to say the U.S. should rid itself of Black History Month, which is celebrated in February. "There shouldn’t be a Black History Month," she shared. "We’re Americans, period. That’s it.”

She supported her stance, noting that there isn’t a white history month.

Dash remained a trending topic on Twitter throughout the day and her viral comments even warranted a response from BET. The network shared a link to a gallery on its site titled "Every Time Stacey Dash Proved She Was Clueless."

The post featured some of Dash’s controversial statements, including her support of Mitt Romney, insensitive comments about rape victims and side eye worthy viewpoints on government assistance programs.

”She thinks there needs to be a white history month too, since, you know, our ancestors apparently fought for nothing," the network wrote in regard to her comments on Wednesday. "Clueless indeed."
