DJs get kicked off of the decks at clubs all of the time. That is a fact of life. Sometimes it is warranted - they are too drunk or are playing awful records that don't work, or other times it isn't and the club decides their tastes have changed suddenly, possibly with the influence of a high-rolling VIP. This could be the case of what happened recently at Zouk Nightclub in Singapore when DJ Fadi, the touring arm of Egyptian trance duo Aly & Fila was playing late into the night and he was asked to leave the decks reportedly in favor of the Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak's son.

Captured in a YouTube video, DJ Fadi explains with disgust why he was asked to leave the decks, saying that the Singaporean nightlife institution wanted "someone else to play."

I'll see you somewhere in the future," Fadi says. "Not in Zouk anymore, because I won't play in Zouk any f-- more. They've insulted me, but I love you guys."

Zouk explained in a Facebook post that this was all a misunderstanding and the club did not end his set prematurely. That has not stopped the club from receiving loads of negative comments on their social media channels.

The issue goes beyond just kicking a DJ off of the decks potentially early at a club. The replacement was the son of embattled prime minister Najib Razak who has been embroiled in a scandal involving 1MDB, the 1 Malaysia Development Bank, where hundreds of millions of dollars have been reportedly siphoned off into Razak's personal accounts in the form of individual payments. The scandal involved banks and shell corporations in the Middle East, Europe and United States with Swiss authorities taking the lead in investigating according to the Wall Street Journal. Though there are no signs of foul play here, Razak has tightened his grip recently on power, jailing or scaring opposition leaders, which could have influenced the heads of Zouk into making this decision to not incur the wrath of their neighbor.
