It was announced yesterday that Pink Floyd will be releasing a new album titled The Endless River in October, reports Consequence of SoundThe news came in a tweet posted by Polly Samson, partner of Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour.

The tweet reads: "Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called "The Endless River". Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright's swansong and very beautiful."

The Endless River will be Pink Floyd's first album since 1994's The Division Bell, and is the band's first album since the death of keyboardist and founding member Rick Wright, who passed away of cancer in 2008 at age 65. News of the album's release was confirmed by backing vocalist Durga McBroom-Hudson, who posted a photo to her Facebook page (seen above) and provided details about the album's origins.

McBroom-Hudson explained: "The recording did start during the Division Bell sessions (and yes, it was the side project originally titled The Big Spliff that Nick Mason spoke about). Which is why there are Richard Wright tracks on it. But David and Nick have gone in and done a lot more since then. It was originally to be a completely instrumental recording, but I came in last December and sang on a few tracks. David then expanded on my backing vocals and has done a lead on at least one of them. That's the song you see being worked on in the photo."

As reported by NMEthe album's original sessions took place at "Gilmour's Astoria houseboat studio and Britannia Row Studios in London." Most of the album's lyrics were written by Gilmour and Samson, which suggests that original bassist and lyricist Roger Waters has no involvement in the album.
