In the next episode of “Chicago P.D.” Season 5, Burgess (Marina Squerciati) is desperate to prove the innocence of Frank Toma (Ben Youcef). He is a Muslim patrol officer who is also the primary suspect in a terrorist attack. Burgess will fight to clear his name even if it means going against her superiors.

The synopsis of the “Chicago P.D.” episode titled “The Thing About Heroes,” a van explodes during a Chicago street festival and evidence quickly piles up pointing to Frank as the perpetrator. His case isn’t helped by his sudden disappearance after the attack according to The Futon Critic. Burgess shares a connection to Frank because she trained him.

Squerciati talked about how important is proving Frank’s innocence for her character reports TV Line. Burgess feels “deep in her bones” that her Muslim friend is not involved in the attack. So involved is Burgess in the case that there is a scene in the upcoming “Chicago P.D.” episode that she actually yells at Voight (Jason Beghe). The actress thought it was kind of awesome since she didn’t think Burgess had it in her to do that.

Burgess also has a new fellow in her life this season of “Chicago P.D.” But, her ex Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) still holds a place in her heart. Squerciati says that while the emotions are there, it isn’t a good time for the exes and Burgess has to move on. The actress thinks that the chances for them to reunite are slim.

Squerciati also revealed that her character is already moving on with her romantic life. She says that her new beau is more than a fling. In fact, she gets the sense that it will be getting serious for them. Catch “Chicago P.D.” on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on NBC.
