Music lovers come in all shapes and sizes. They are our grandparents who listened to the tunes of Elvis Presley and the Beastie Boys. They are our little brother or sister who dances to viral tunes on TikTok. And they are us-who most likely stream our music on a range of playlists on Spotify.

But no matter who you love to listen to or how you choose to listen to it, it is the sounds that music makes that we collectively adore. In comes one of the most classic ways to cherish music-through vinyl records.

Making the ultimate comeback in 2020 has been the record player and music being sold on vinyl. This is because the secret that had died at the turn of the century has come out of hiding once again-and that is that listening to music on vinyl creates a soothing sonic sound that elevates the magic of music.

So while some may argue that vinyl records are antique, others may say that they are the new trending thing. The next time you are in a vinyl store browsing through the collections, take note of the diversity of music enthusiasts who are browsing with you!

But when trying to determine if vinyl records really are antiques, here is what you need to know about them.

1.       Thomas Edison invented the first vinyl

Not only did he invent the life-changing lightbulb, but Edison also invented the first known form of a vinyl-forever changing music's history. Although the vinyl could only be played a few times before breaking and had to come with a collection of albums to get through all the songs, the invention was still monumental for the music industry and music lovers around the world.

2.       It took almost 80 years later for the upgraded vinyl to hit the record players

By the end of the 1940s, vinyl records were finally emerging with upgraded features.  They had evolved to be able to hold up to twelve songs on one vinyl record-making it more convenient to listen to music. This coincided with the evolution of turntables-which are a key instrument for many DJs today!

3.       Vinyl Records now range in price

If you are wanting to get an old-school collection of vinyl records for your record player, the cost will likely vary between a few digits. This has to do with a range of factors that include rarity, album art, the condition of the vinyl itself, and the popularity of the artist. Each vinyl is given a grade of either mint, near mint, good or poor.

4.       Vinyl Records are still being produced

Did you know that recording artists like Adam Lambert, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, and Carrie Underwood have their music recorded on vinyl records as well! While their music can easily be accessed online, many music lovers are enjoying the more traditional method of playing their songs through their record player. Not only do the vinyl versions give a sense of authenticity to the artists, but it allows the listeners to have a more authentic experience with the music. As we said, the magic of the vinyl is that it creates a soothing sound a computer or iPod simply can not produce.

So what do you think? Do you think that vinyl records are antique? We argue the answer that while the actual vinyl record method itself is old and many recording artists have left their legacies on these records, new emerging musical talent are equally coming out with vinyl records for fans to enjoy.

It is a cherished musical listening experiencing that has survived for over 150 years. And we believe will be around for many more years to come. This is because vinyl records make listening to music personal-the way it was intended to be.
