Based on a true story, Kevin plays the role of a father who has lost the love of his life to a condition called pulmonary embolism, a day after she had given birth to their beautiful baby girl, Madeline, short 'Maddy'. He must now make tough decisions as he goes through a roller coaster ride of raising this little girl. It's a beautiful and touching story with heavy moments that you can't help but drop a tear or two.
In an interview with Today.com, Kevin Hart, as a proud father of four, spoke of how he had to channel some of his personal experiences to nail this role. Could this explain why he was chosen to be Maddy's dad? Maybe. He smoothly transitions from being the funny Kevin to tackling real-life issues in this movie, impressively so, we might add. The Hollywood star also shared how much he embraced the role, as the story was so meaningful to him and mentioned that working with the Obamas as the producing partners just fueled him more.
Kevin touched on the importance of relaying the message of black fathers playing a positive role in their kids' lives, which is a story that is not often told. Can you believe that he confessed to crying as he read his script for the first time? How touching? Another fantastic addition to this beautiful story is that Kevin Hart met the makers of this story; Matt Logelin and daughter Maddy. They got to meet on the set of Fatherhood and bonded so well. Matt initially wrote the story in his blog as part of a healing process and never imagined it to reach Netflix someday or even be played by Kevin Hart himself. He is so pleased as this film has gone to the big screen and is making waves and healing more people all over.
Enough said, it truly is a beautiful story and will indeed be watched repeatedly. How amazing it is to hear the passion actors have when given a task like this. Kevin Hart is not only nailing fatherhood in real life; he killed it being Maddy's dad in this movie.
