Lin Manuel Miranda is one of the most prominent music writers and trailblazers in the music and theatre industry. With the fantastic feat, it would be an understatement to tell that Miranda has received "many" accolades with his award-winning work.

The Academy recently released its complete list of 2022 nominees for all categories.

Among the list is Lin Manuel Miranda's "Dos Oruguitas" from the hit animated feature "Encanto", also nominated for Best Animated Feature this year.

What's an EGOT?

If Lin Manuel Miranda succeeds in winning the Oscar, he would be one of the few people in the industry to have achieved the "EGOT" status.

Achieving "EGOT" status means that the person has won from all four major American entertainment awards: Emmy for Television, Grammy for Music, Oscar for Film, and Tony for Theatre.

The number of people who have won all four awards is somewhat limited. The list includes the rank of Marvin Hamlisch, Audrey Hepburn, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Whoopi Goldberg, Richard Rodgers, Barbra Streisand, and John Legend.

Recently, it was composer Alan Menken in 2020 who have received the latest EGOT status.

He received an Emmy for best original song in a children's, young adult, or animation show for "Waiting in the Wings," a song from Disney's "Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure."

Miranda is one step away from his EGOT with an Oscar award since he already has an Emmy, Grammy, and a Tony Award.

Miranda's EGOT and PEGOT?

Lin Manuel Miranda is short of one award to achieve total elite status.

He already has two Tony Awards for Best Original Score from his successful "In The Heights" in 2008 and the iconic "Hamilton" in 2016, in which he also had a Best Book of a Musical Tony Award.

Likewise, Miranda earned her two Grammy awards for "In The Heights" and "Hamilton" for Best Musical Theatre Album and Best Song Written for Visual Media for his work "How Far (I'll Go)" for Disney's "Moana".

As for his Emmy, Miranda won Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-recorded) as a producer for "Hamilton", aired at Disney+, Disney's official streaming platform, in 2021. He also won Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics from his 2014 work at the 67th Tony Awards opening number (Bigger!) performed by Neil Patrick Harris.

Aside from the prestigious EGOT, Miranda would have a double win if he wins an Oscar because he will also share the rare shares the rare distinction of having the PEGOT status (Peabody/Pulitzer, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony).

Should he win, he will join Marvin Hamlisch and Richard Rodgers on the status as he already received a Pulitzer in 2016 for his groundbreaking work for "Hamilton".
