Prince's inner circle believed that his cause of death was beyond his accidental fentanyl overdose.

In 2016, Prince's record-breaking stint abruptly ended after he was found dead in his Paisley Park estate. Police reports concluded that he died of an accidental fentanyl overdose, but his friends believed that there was something that caused him to consume the drugs.

In a report shared by Express UK, Biographer Toure reportedly spoke with the late singer's aides and friends, who told him that taking drugs was his way of creating music and pushing himself to perform through pain in front of his fans.

The "When Doves Cry" hitmaker reportedly started taking heavy-duty medication to keep himself running so he could interact with his fans and other people.

"Music was all he had and the only way he had of interacting with other people..that was his identity. That was the tragedy - he was not taking drugs for trippy fun experiences, but he was taking drugs to get up and work - like so many Americans," Toure said.

The biographer added that Prince suffered pain as he pushed himself to be a rockstar. For him, seeing the late singer turn like that was heartbreaking since he had to keep going despite the chronic pain, which included his lower back and knee problems.

How Prince's Death Happened

After he was found dead, Carver County Attorney Mark Metz stated in the report amid the investigation at that time that Prince died after consuming a fatal Vicodin tablet laced with fentanyl.

It was believed that he purchased it online. According to Metz, the two-year probe found no evidence that could prove that his doctors, staff, or friends gave him the fatal medicine.

Despite the lengthy investigation, they were not able to identify who gave him the counterfeited Vicodin laced with fentanyl.

In the last moments before his death, Prince can be seen walking into a doctor's office alongside Kirk Johnson, his friend and bodyguard. The video was presented as part of the probe, which concluded that no criminal charges would be filed.

His doctors prescribed him medication to assist his opioid withdrawal.
