Jay-Z has reportedly filed a lawsuit against his D'usse Cognac partner, Barcadi Limited, and he's asking for "financial clarity."

Jay-Z, born Shawn Corey Carter, partnered up with Bacardi through his company SC Liquor in 2011, and are co-owners of D'usse; the split was reportedly 50-50 between the two.

He has been seen promoting the brand since then, including it in his songs, and showing it off during promotion shoots for the Grammy Awards.

However, there seems to be trouble in paradise because SC Liquor is now demanding transparency from Bacardi, notably how much his cognac line is making.

The Suit

According to court documents, the rapper's company is requesting access to "all books and records," as well as the locations of D'usse's products and materials. That includes D'usse warehouses, barrel storage, bottles, accessories, and more.

Furthermore, SC Liquor holds on to the 50-50 partnership between the two, which entitles both parties to access to all aforementioned details, which was allegedly held back from the rapper's company.

The company also noted that the suit was done to monitor the conduct of [Bacardi's] business to protect SC's rights as" an equal partner, reports say.

The Legacy

Jay-Z ensured that D'usse will be a cognac line that no one will forget, and made sure of it since it was founded in 2012.

The signature bottle and name have reverberated through time in the hip-hop community and music scene. He was seen drinking it from a Grammy trophy in 2013 following his win at the 55th Grammy Awards.

.

The spirit is so popular that it has been given a shoutout in several songs throughout the years, including "Suit & Tie" by Justin Timberlake, "Drunk In Love" by Beyonce, both released in 2013, and "The Devil Is A Lie," by Rick Ross, released in 2014.

According to reports, a bottle sold for over $50,000 dollars at Sotheby's.

It was given an estimated value of between $25,000 to $75,000.

Following the successful purchase of the D'usse bottle, Jay-Z said, "When our cellar master, Michel Casavecchia, discovered the aged liquid at the Château de Cognac and explained how truly one of a kind it is, it was important to me to honor it by doing something that would celebrate its singularity."

Clearly, the D'usse hype and clout are still there, however, problems between the partners were brewing beneath the surface. As of this writing, there is no word on how the suit will proceed.
