James Hetfield wanted a different name for Metallica's new album, but the members pushed through with "72 Seasons."
Six years after "Hardwired... To Self-Destruct," Metallica excitedly informed fans of its 12-track album, "72 Seasons." The new project, due to be released on April 14, serves as the band's 12th studio album.
According to Hetfield, the title "72 Seasons" stands for the first 18 years of a person's life that form their "true or false selves."
But the album almost had a different title.

James Hetfield Wants To Call Metallica's New Album
Hetfield revealed the story during his interview with So What!. According to the musician, he had a different plan and vision for the album's theme, and that is the reason why the album artwork has yellow.
He explained that the color is a "source of goodness," and it complemented the black contrasts in the artwork.
So instead of "72 Seasons," he wanted the album to be named "Lux Æterna" instead - the title of one of the album's tracks.

"My vision was I wanted this album [to be] called Lux Æterna because that summed up all the songs for me, kind of an eternal light that was always inside of us that maybe is just now coming out," he said.
The frontman said he was outvoted for it, but he eventually accepted "72 Seasons" since it is "more chewable" and people could dig into that title even more.
Despite that, the band decided to retain the color that came out of "Lux Aeterna."
Metallica has since released the song and the title track. The band also served "Screaming Suicide" and "If Darkness Had a Son" before the official album release on April 14.
The other songs in the album include "Shadows Follow," "Sleepwalk My Life Away," "You Must Burn!," "Crown of Barbed Wire," "Chasing Light," "Too Far Gone?," "Room of Mirrors," and "Inamorata."
Metallica Begins "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Residency
Ahead of the album release, Metallica also started its "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" residency on Monday. The four-day residency will end on April 13, a day before the "72 Seasons" album arrival.
Metallica confirmed its plans in an announcement on Twitter on April 7.
The band's upcoming schedule will strengthen its over four decades of career. Fortunately, they will offer more in the next coming years as Lars Ulrich told The Sunday Times that "there is still gas in the tank," indicating Metallica's continuous gigs in the music industry.
