The 1975 Issues In The Past Year

If you're online, you would know what happened to the British rock band in the past year. But for those who were kept out of the loop, its frontman, Matty Healy has been a headline-maker.

It all started when Healy appeared on the Adam Friedland podcast and threw some racist remarks at rapper Ice Spice. Then, he and Taylor Swift became a thing for a brief while after the singer's split from Joe Alwyn.

Essentially, fans didn't want the relationship because of Healy's problematic behavior. Rina Sawayama, The 1975's label mate, started a subtle war with Healy when she dedicated the song "STFU!" on Glastonbury 2023 to Healy for their problematic behavior and other controversial things he dabbled in.

Last July, they got banned in Malaysia after publicly calling out the Malaysian government for their notorious anti-LGBTQ laws in the country. From this point forward, the band was forced to cancel all their Asian engagements and was even asked by the organizers to pay £2 million since the government took down the whole festival shortly after their lewd display on the show.
