Taylor Swift's impact encompassing impact on society has been really expansive lately - hitting entertainment strides, box-office records, and ticking off economic marks - a sole reporter dedicated to following her must be put in place.

That is why Gannett, the media company behind USA Today and the biggest newspaper chain in the United States, hired the very first Taylor Swift journalist.

However, when the search was announced to be finally over, Swifties weren't all that enthralled.

USA Today's New Taylor Swift Journalist Revealed

In an exclusive interview with Variety, USA Today's New Taylor Swift journalist has been named.

Bryan West, a 35-year-old journalist from Phoenix, Arizona passed all the interviews and qualifications to become the sole person dedicated to writing about Taylor Swift and all things about her. (via The New York Times)

"I would say this position's no different than being a sports journalist who's a fan of the home team. I just came from Phoenix, and all of the anchors there were wearing Diamondbacks gear; they want the Diamondbacks to win. I'm just a fan of Taylor and I have followed her her whole career, but I also have that journalistic background," West claimed.

A graduate of Northwestern University in Illinois, West also shared that he has worked across various newsrooms in the country.

"I think that's the fun of this job is that, yeah, you can talk Easter eggs, but it really is more of the seriousness, like the impact that she has on society and business and music," he said about his new job.

West also has a reputation in his former workplaces wherein they would tease him to be getting sick leaves whenever Taylor Swift released a new album just to devote a whole day listening to the new release.

Swifties Enraged Over New Taylor Swift Journalist

While there is no denying that West, despite how ironic his last name is, is a big fan of Taylor Swift, some Swifties online expressed their apprehensiveness about hiring a man for the job.

"They hired a man to cover Taylor Swift. Okay," a user contemplated on social media.

"paying a man a salary to obsess over a woman when women have been doing it better and for free for years is so classic lmfaooo," another commented.

"Yeah, this position should have gone to a woman. Not going to defend Taylor on this one. Give it to somebody who grew up with her music who knows her brand in and out," someone pointed out.
