• 'Cake' Has Generated Oscar Buzz for Jennifer Aniston, but It's Bombing in Theaters

    The last six months of Jennifer Aniston's life must feel like a total dream to the actress. She has done loads of media to promote a couple different projects and in those interviews has emerged a strong and content woman. She also has made huge leaps in her career by taking on the role of a chronic pain sufferer in the indie flick "Cake." The low-budget film has helped the actress rack up best-actress nominations during award season, but in its first week out it kind of bombing at the box office. This despite it having generated Oscar buzz.

    Clint Eastwood's "American Sniper" has made $105.3 at the box office after just a few days, absolutely shattering January film records. It seems that anyone who has seen it this past weekend is saying that it is absolutely a must-see flick. Of course there is a disgruntled group giving voice to the notion that American Sniper is little more than pro-war propaganda but the bottom line is that in order to really form an opinion, you've got to check out the film.

    Usually in the weeks leading up to the Oscar nominations, a pattern from other awards shows begins to develop and we kind of have a clue of who will ultimately be nominated for Hollywood's top prize. This year is a bit different because so many of the categories are wide open with numerous strong contenders. This morning, "Star Wars" director JJ Abrams and last year's Best Director winner Alfonso Cuaron announced the first 12 categories live while Chris Pine and Academy President Cheryl Boone Pine followed with the next 12 categories. When all was said and done, "Birdman" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel" are leading the nominations with nine each. There are also a few surprises in there. Jennifer Aniston has been acknowledged with a few best actress nominations for "Cake," but she was not on the Academy's radar and neither was perennial favorite Amy Adams.
