Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn called it quits, but the pop superstar seemingly shared a hint about it during her Eras Tour.
After six years of dating, Swift and Alwyn broke up "amicably" and in a "not dramatic way." Entertainment Tonight's sources said they split a few weeks before the news broke, and the singer herself seemingly hinted about it during her Eras Tour stop in Arlington, Texas, a week ago.
Taylor Swift Sings THIS Breakup Anthem at Eras Tour
People and several news outlets noted that the 33-year-old "Lavender Haze" singer seemingly hinted at her breakup with Alwyn when she replaced the first song of her tour's 1"Folklore" section.
Instead of performing "Invisible String," she performed "The 1" during her March 31 stop at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. She has been singing the same track since.
The track was released on July 24, 2020, as part of her eighth studio album, "Folklore." Its lyrics and music video highlight a narrator's story as they speak positively about a past love while wishing they could have been soulmates.
"The 1" also revolves around remembering what a person once had and sharing the sadness after losing someone.
Taylor Swift, Joe Alwyn Were "Doing Great" Before Breakup
Following the split news, sources said the now-ex-couple was in a great place in their relationship. In October, insiders said their relationship was strong.
Their blooming relationship even led to engagement rumors. The buzz sparked even more because of the lyrics of her "Midnights" opening track, "Lavender Haze."
For what it's worth, the song lyrics go: "I'm damned if I do give a damn what people say/ the 1950s s- they want from me/ I just wanna stay in that lavender haze/ All they keep asking me is if I'm gonna be your bride/ the only kinda girl they see is a one night or a wife."
However, Swift has since clarified that she was only inspired by the phrase "lavender haze" while watching the TV series "Mad Men." She also posted a TikTok video in which she explained that the term was commonly used by people in the 1950s to describe those who were in love.
Meanwhile, Alwyn told WSJ he would have countless pound coins if he could receive one every time he had been asked whether he was already engaged to Swift.
