Normani Finally Releasing Debut Album 'Dopamine'

Fans have been joking about Normani's album, which was announced years ago via X (formerly known as Twitter) because it has taken her so long to drop it.

However, now that the "Motivation" hitmaker finally struck out as a soloist six years after Fifth Harmony announced their indefinite hiatus in 2018.

Dopamine is not Normani's first soloist release since she collaborated with several artists like Sam Smith for "Dancing With a Stranger" in 2019 and Cardi B for "Wild Side" in 2021.

"I know what I've been through," the singer said in an interview. "For me, this upcoming album is not just about music coming out. It feels like a representation of everything I've gone through to get to this moment... I know I needed time, experiences, and space coming out of [Fifth Harmony] in order to become the version of myself I needed to be. Without [all of that], I would not be able to exist within the creative space that I am in now. I would not be able to make the type of music I'm making now."

What Took Normani So Long?

According to Harpers Bazaar, it took Normani so long to release an album because she wanted people to take her music seriously, so she had to grow and develop her artistry before dropping her first release.

"I had a lot of growing to do," the singer explained. "I had a lot of artist development, which I feel like people don't take seriously. They throw artists onstage completely unprepared. And for me, that mentality was very important. Now, I've also been very critical on myself."

In the interview, she also reassured fans that Dopamine will be "worth the wait."
