Andy Murray broke the 77-year stretch without a victory for someone from the U.K. with his victory at Wimbledon on Sunday. The various nations of the isle often squabble about this and that but all were in agreement when praising the Scottish Murray. A coterie of musicians from the United Kingdom took to Twitter to congratulate the tennis star on his win.

"Congratulations Andy Murray won Wimbledon well done Peace and love. R***" typed former Beatles drummer and generally esteemed guy Ringo Starr.

Some felt that a bigger award was necessary for Murray, as he also won the Olympic gold for Scotland at London in 2012.

"As of yesterday @andy_murray is the current US Open, Olympic and Wimbledon champion! Surely a knighthood in the post..." tweeted Snow Patrol member Gary Lightbody.

Murray was popular among non-U.K. residents as well, including Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash. The rock star mistook Murray for an Englishman, but his intentions were good.

"Congratulations to @Andy_Murray on his 1st Wimbledon title. That's huge for him. & England. Bravo! iiii]; )'," Slash wrote.

Ellie Goulding was moved to tears apparently.

"I cried happy tears RT @clare12250@elliegoulding what's your opinion on Andy Murray winning today?" the pop star responded to a fan tweet.

"Nothing like being in Scotland when the sun is shining and one of your own wins Wimbledon. Utterly Priceless. Congrats to Andy Murray! Sx" wrote Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson from her home in Scotland.

We'll see if the winner of the British Open gets similar fanfare when the golf championship takes place at the Muirfield Golf Course in Edinburgh.
