Jimmy Page has been talking up his new solo work recently, and it sounds like the finished product will be worth the wait. In a conversation with Classic Rock magazine, the Led Zeppelin guitarist promised that the new material "will be surprising." Jimmy, we'll take anything at this point. We haven't heard your solo stuff since 1988's Outrider.

"I'm playing guitar at the moment, because I'm getting ready. I'm starting to get ready," he said. Since the guitarist has been the mastermind behind the recent Led Zeppelin reissues, he's had to put off work on his solo stuff. "At the end of that was gonna be what would manifest as me playing live."

"Whatever I do, I don't want everyone to have made up their mind what I'm doing before I've done it," he added about a tour. "I mean, they already have. On the Internet, people are telling me that, 'Oh, you're doing this, and you're doing that,' and I'm - 'Am I? Just wait and see what I do.'"

He didn't give up much on his new material other than it will be "surprising." Well, at least that's something.

"I'd like to obviously show what I've done along the way, but I'd definitely have musical surprises for people so they wouldn't sort of start yawning."

Back in October, Page reiterated that he is not making a Led Zeppelin knock-off album. "New music is new music. But it still has to be good. It has to be vital. It has to connect with people. It doesn't want to be limp and halfhearted," he said.

Robert Plant has carved his own spot out in today's music landscape as a solo artist. Do you think Page can do the same? Comment below.
