The release of Madeon's debut album Adventure is just 21 days away and the French producer/DJ has shared a new single from his LP. The final track on the regular album "Home" is the first song that features Madeon singing as an artist.
The record acts as an epic finale to Madeon's debut work with distorted, distant and personal vocals, over a bed of soft, floating arpeggios before launching into bombastic kick drums and chords. Listen to the video on Madeon's YouTube.
Madeon described the creative process for writing home in an exercise where he locks himself in his studio for 24 hours without a break to help spur creativity and force him to work via a press release.
"I wake up in the morning, have a cup of coffee, start a clock and I have a countdown of 24 hours. I don't leave the room and I have to write three original songs from scratch. It's very, very intense, very physical, because sleep deprivation kicks in. Sleep deprivation shuts down a few sections of my brain, it makes me feel like I'm floating. It's the closest thing to drugs that I would do," said Madeon.
"I start doing things and it's no longer ideas going through the brain to the body to communicate with the studio, it's like all melting together a little. I like it, actually. And it's very intense emotionally, because you can never stop, you have to work non-stop. The last track on the album, 'Home,' was written that way," explained Madeon.
"[At the] 16th or 17th hour, sleep deprivation had started to impact, I was just in that exhaustion phase and I started feeling incredibly vulnerable and incapable of writing music. So I wrote a song about that kind of feeling, about giving up. And because I was alone in the studio and I have to finish it, I sang on it myself: I'm not a singer, but it was interesting and touching to have those fragile, vulnerable vocals on there," he said.
The album is available for pre-order and "Home" comes as an instantaneous download for those who purchased a copy now. Madeon is heading out on his first North American headlining tour this spring. Check out the dates here.
