Amid comparisons to the late singer, Tink decided to remix Aaliyah's "One In A Million" with Timbaland handling the production.

The buzzing Chicago artist put an interesting twist on Baby Girl's classic with the blessing of her mentor Timbo. On the four-and-a-half minute cut, Tink shows her versatility, singing and rapping.

As previously reported, she debuted live at SXSW back in March.

In the past, Timbaland has been very protective over the use of Aaliyah's music but he defended Tink's remix while in Austin, saying the "Rock the Boat" singer approved in a dream.

"I don't touch baby girl's records — y'all know that's Aaliyah," Timbaland said after taking the mic. "I was riding home one day, asleep. She spoke to me in my sleep and said, 'She's the one.'"

The veteran producer's statement sparked controversy among fans and Tink went on to clear things up during an interview with Sway Calloway.

"To be clear, Tim never said she's the next Aaliyah," she explained. "He never said that. There will never be another Aaliyah, period, point blank. Aaliyah is Aaliyah, her legacy will live forever. So what Tim basically was saying is that Aaliyah gave him confirmation that this is going to be something. So for me it was just like, yeah Tim does feel like that. He's passionate about it. You can't work with people who aren't passionate. It's just not the same. I felt proud. It's not pressure. It's more so like this is confirmation, like that sign."

Tink's debut album Think Tink is due this year featuring a collaboration with Missy Elliott.
