Timbaland recently made headlines when he shared a meme about Caitlyn Jenner onto his Instagram account. The veteran producer took to Twitter to call out the media and explain the origin behind the humorous photo.

As noted by XXL, the meme was a picture of Arsenio Hall from a scene in Eddie Murphy's 1988 film Coming to America. Those familiar with the film may recall when Hall's character says,"His momma call him Clay, I'mma call him Clay," referring to Cassius Clay changing his name to Muhammad Ali. In the meme that Timbaland shared, Hall's character is depicted saying the same thing, changing "Clay" to "Bruce," in reference to Jenner.

Many people found the post to be transphobic. Timbaland has since hopped on Twitter to clarify the meme and why he shared it. We've compiled Timbaland's series of tweets. Read what he had to say below.

Boy some of the media outlets have so many fooled. Let me explain this cause I see they are putting up their own headlines to deceive. A lot of you guys. this is what happen. I saw a meme post and repost it cause I seen the movie in the post and thought that part of the movie was one of the funniest parts. and somebody decide to take out clay which was said in the movie and put bruce. thats it. I didnt make the meme that was posted or said publicly what the meme said. Man I find it funny you can take a something reposted and say. "Timbaland said" in the headlines. But nevertheless that is the story but I doubt they will post this. Not interesting enough for them. now back to my lovely day. I just had to tell the story the correct way. now what u think after that is what u think. I already stated I have nothing against him or anybody who have made that decision. I said that right after he did the interview. Publicly. what the media need 2 post is some of the fresh, new talent i repost on my instagram page. thats what the world need to see, show them that.
