American bass don, Lorin Ashton, known professionally as Bassnectar has been hard at work this past year making loads of new music and he has at last released the mother lode in the form of a new mixtape titled Into The Sun. The diverse, 16-track project is heavy collaborations with various other producers and rappers with a few remixes sprinkled in for the likes of The Naked & Famous, David Heartbreak and Psymbionic & Of The Trees.
The mixtape has a bit of everything from shimmering dubstep, to hyphy trap, to reworked rock cuts and in-your-face bass.
Bassnectar has always been one to reach beyond the traditional boundaries of the jarring bass music, collaborating with the likes of Lupe Fiasco and an unreleased "killer one" with Tom Morello. This album puts that free-flowing creative mind in focus with a total disregard for genre boundaries.
In addition to the new tracks, Bassnectar re-did some old tracks from his 2005 mixtape Mesmerizing The Ultra, which contained 35 original songs and collaborations. However, the label went under and his deal didn't get the rights to those songs, so all of the tracks disappeared with the label. This is his way of reviving a few of them.
