Tragedy has struck the hip-hop world today, August 8, as renowned Brooklyn rapper, Sean Price, has died at age 43. The outpouring of grief from rappers on Twitter shows how valuable Price was to the hip-hop community.

Price hailed from the Brownsville section of Brooklyn and emerged as one of New York's most esteemed emcees during the late '90s and early '00s. He began his career as one-half of the duo Heltah Skeltah, with fellow Brownsville emcee Rock. He and Rock were also part of the Brooklyn supergroup, Boot Camp Clik, alongside Buckshot, duo Smif-n-Wessun and trio O.G.C.

Price released three solo albums, the first being Monkey Barz in 2005 and the latest, Mic Tyson, in 2008. In 2011, he joined with rapper Guilty Simpson and rapper/producer Black Milk to form Random Axe. He was preparing to release a solo mixtape, Songs in the Key of Price, later this month. Heltah Skeltah were also reportedly planning an album for later this year.

DJ Premier was the first to break the unfortunate news, sending his regards to Duck Down, the New York label to which Price was signed throughout his career.

A rep for Duck Down Music has since released a statement on Price's untimely death:

"It is with beyond a heavy heart that Duck Down Music is sadly confirming that Sean Price passed away early this morning in his Brooklyn apartment, Saturday, August 8th, 2015. The cause of death is currently unknown, but it was reported that he died in his sleep. He's survived by his wife, and his three children. Sean's family and friends are asking for time to grieve and process the news. Further details will be issued when more information is available."

Most recently, Price was featured on You Disgust Me, the new album from Gangrene, the production duo of Alchemist and Oh No. Listen to "Sheet Music," which also features Mobb Deep's Havoc, below.

Hours after Price's passing, many hip-hop greats, including Mobb Deep, Killer Mike, Just Blaze and many more, have taken to social media to mourn for the highly-respected emcee.

R.I.P. Ruck....Love and Respect to The Duck Down Family!!! #SeanPrice
