One of the most highly anticipated video games of 2016, Tom Clancy's The Division, brings plenty of multiplayer gameplay action to New York City - but not all of the Big Apple. According to an update from Ubisoft, only Midtown, Manhattan will be featured as the main setting of the game on release, despite some Brooklyn footage shown at E3 2013. The launch version of The Division won't feature Brooklyn or any other of the Burroughs, besides the Midtown section of Manhattan.

"For Tom Clancy's The Division we are going with Midtown Manhattan. It is because of the 1 to 1 re-creation and the way the pandemic has [happened]. Basically, everything has been hit and there are no more resources because everyone tried to get out," the game's creative director, Magnus Jansen told The Examiner. "There is no more gasoline in the cars, there is no traffic, you're on foot. With the level of detail we have, doing Midtown Manhattan is a huge open-world experience and more than enough to sink your teeth into. It is a very sizable open-world game."

Considering the hype around the game and this announcement coming so close to the March 8 release date, it seems like Ubisoft isn't worried about scaring gamers away with this change. IGN suggests the Brooklyn gameplay, and other Burroughs, might show up as expansion packs or downloadable content in the future.

As a New Yorker, this is kind of lame news, especially since people that live in New York City rarely visit Midtown outside of work or other responsibilities. It's one of the biggest tourist attractions in the world, making it an ideal place to destroy, but other Burroughs would've been cool to see.
