Australian singer, songwriter and producer Hayden Calnin has released the first part of his ambitious Cut Love double album. Titled the Cut love. Pt. 1, the 10-track LP has no features, just the blissful writing, singing and playing of Calnin all the way through. He does include some audio recordings of people talking in various different situations throughout the album.

The album starts out with a song track with guitar and strings underneath an old recording of a man talking existentially about death and the value of material possessions. As he says, "the most real is the state of nothing."

This then transitions into the title track "Cut Love" that is the longest of the bunch and sets the tone for the blissful types of instrumentals you will hear throughout the rest of the LP.

The album gets split by an almost jarring, half-jazz composition "Honour" that peaks with high-pitched synths that sit in the background, yet play prominently in the mix.

There is a second but of voice recording on "Launch" with final stages of a NASA space launch going in the background over a very simple track of just Calnin and an acoustic guitar.

There won't be any really upbeat dance tracks, but "We Are Stars & Spheres" is the most uplifting of the bunch.

Speaking to Calnin via email, he described what he wanted to do creatively on this album. "It's very much a concept album without the classical structure of most contemporary music but with a lot of narrative."
