Over the weekend, the Brit Awards announced their 2017 nominees. Rihanna, Little Mix and Skepta lead the way with three nominations, while David Bowie, Zayn and Drake are among those who have two nominations each.
Skepta is up for British Male Solo Artist against a diverse group including Kano, Craig David, Michael Kiwanuka and David Bowie.
This year is being praised for its diversity after a year where the gala was criticized for its lack of black nominees. The BPI shuffled their membership, getting some new blood into the mix before this year's nominations.
The Brit Awards are the UK's biggest music award show, focusing on British acts, though there is an international component. Rihanna will compete in the International Female Award category against some stiff competition in Beyoncé, Solange, Sia and Christine and the Queens. Drake finds himself in the International Male Award category against The Weeknd, Leonard Cohen, Bruno Mars and Bon Iver.
Little Mix, The 1975 and Emili Sande are the first batch of performers confirmed for the night. The Brit Awards will be held on Feb. 22 at London's O2 Arena. Fans have until Friday to vote in the two publicly voted categories, British Breakthrough Artist and British Video of the Year.
