Many fans were alarmed after John Mayer's drummer, Steve Farrone, tested positive for COVID-19 amid their ongoing tour. The show managed to carry on as scheduled, but supporters were shocked when the singer revealed his guest drummer.

According to Paper Magazine, the "Your Body Is a Wonderland" hitmaker recently performed at Madison Square Garden earlier this week.

Moments before the show, Mayer announced on his social media accounts that Farrone wouldn't be joining them for the show as he tested positive for the virus.

Despite missing one member, he carried on and performed throughout the evening with the help of a surprise guest.

The outlet noted how the audience's mood shifted when Questlove appeared and ultimately replaced Farrone throughout the night's show.

The musician initially planned to watch the show as a part of the crowd, but he got a last-minute message from the singer, asking him to play for the concert.

Questlove took to his Instagram account to share the story, writing, "I got out my show clothes all [excited] & then I checked my phone: 'Ferrone got covid, can you sit in?"

Throughout the evening, Mayer and his band performed classic hits of the early 2000s and also played a new single titled "New Light" with an acoustic twist.

Later on, Mayer expressed his gratitude in a social media post, thanking Questlove for stepping in despite giving him an hour before the show.

He also sent his regards to Steve Ferrone, who's currently recovering from COVID-19.

Although fans are loving the new setup with Questlove in the lineup, Mayer clarified in his post that he wouldn't be joining the musician in his following tour schedules.

"The next couple of tour stops will feature this format (minus the very otherwise-engaged Questlove) and I will devote every moment to making sure we bring you the best show we can," he wrote.
