Taylor Swift and John Mayer may have ended their relationship over a decade ago, but fans speculate that one song from her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, might be about him.

According to Page Six, the track "The Manuscript," the final song on the bonus version of the album "The Anthology," could potentially be about her romance with Mayer in 2009.

In the song, the pop star used her lyrical talent to tell the story of two people in a relationship with a significant age gap.

The lyrics read: "In the age of him, she wished she was thirty / And made coffee every morning in a Frеnch press / Afterwards she only atе kids' cereal / And couldn't sleep unless it was in her mother's bed."

The musician further sang in the track, and she later dated boys closer to her age.

When Mayer and Swift dated betweeen 2009 and 2010, the singer was only 19 years old while her partner was 32.

Taylor Swift Fans React to 'The Manuscript'

After the album was officially released, many people took to social media to react to the song and speculate that it might be a track about John Mayer.

"wait the manuscript is about john mayer??? she's still writing about that man jfc," one wrote.

"the manuscript being about John Mayer was not on my 2024 bingo card," another one wrote.

"I interpreted it to be how her story about John Mayer is a manuscript passed down to the younger generation as a cautionary tale about how older guys will try to distort your view of yourself in order to justify pursuing someone too young for them," one speculated.

Despite the fan theories, Taylor Swift has yet to reveal whether "The Manuscript" was about John Mayer.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Mayer and Swift were romantically involved from 2009 to 2010. The pair has a significant age gap.

In 2010, the pop star released her album Speak Now, which contained the song "Dear John," many people alleged that the famous track was about her relationship with the Dead & Company singer.

The musician reacted to the fan theories surrounding "Dear John" as he received negative reactions from online users, saying the song made him "feel terrible" and he didn't deserve any of it, adding that it was a "really lousy thing" for the pop star to do.
