Eric Church is now under fire for canceling his "Gather Again Tour" stop in San Antonio, Texas.

However, when fans found out why he wasn't attending his event, they were devastated by his last-minute choice.

Instead, the 44-year-old artist sat in on the NCAA Tournament in New Orleans, Los Angeles, to watch the No. 8 North Carolina Tar Heels.

After explaining the reason, his supporters were outraged and disappointed on Twitter-but they knew what he would ask him was the "most selfish" thing he has ever asked of his fans, whom he refers to as the "Church choir."

The "Heart on Fire" singer also stated that he has a "passion" for the Final Four since he has always been a "Carolina basketball lover."

"If Eric Church believed in the Tar Heels, he would never be booked for the Final Four," one Twitter user said.

"I'm not sure who Eric Church is, but he straight-up canceled his concert this weekend in Texas to watch UNC in the Final Four by sending an email message through Ticketmaster to those with tickets, and they are understandably upset," wrote another.

A third individual even stated that they always skip when one of Eric Church's songs comes on, and that they will do so in the future.

"Self-righteousness and arrogance have never set well with me." If it weren't for those hardworking folks, you'd still be playing in seedy dive bars."

According to various images, Eric Church stated that he had always followed the Carolina and Duke rivalry over the years; nevertheless, the clash that occurred over the weekend was the first time in the history of the NCAA tournament - as he described. To be a "sports fan's fantasy."

He also justified the cancellation of his event, claiming that the same enthusiasm he has for the fans who fill his seats at his gigs drives them to want to be a part of a throng at a game of this magnitude.

It's bad news for any Eric Church fans in San Antonio, since his publicist confirmed they won't be able to reschedule the show.

While the majority of his followers are furious, other sports enthusiasts praised the country singer's move, calling him a "amazing legend."
