When it comes to music, Russell Brand has now hit us with two big surprises.

The actor—mostly known in the music world as Katy Perry's ex-husband—first shocked us with an original Get Him To The Greek soundtrack in 2010. In the movie, he played rock star Aldous Snow, a character from Forgetting Sarah Marshall who performs songs at various junctures of both films.

But the soundtrack to Greek featured 15 songs of UK rock in the vein of Oasis (if Oasis was mostly writing about sex and heavy drugs). Brand was the lead singer, and wasn't half bad.

Now, news surfaces that Brand wants to turn his book of poetry—rEVOlution, due in October—into a rap album.

Female First reports that Brand approached "La La La" artist Naughty Boy for the project. The poems selected for this hip-hop project are said to heavily feature themes of love and "what he has learned from his past romances," and the plan is for Brand to record the poems before NB works some studio magic on the production side of things.

So how did this all come about? FF writes that Brand's girlfriend, Jemima Khan, is friends with Naughty Boy.

As we learned with Get Him To The Greek, Brand has a musical bone, and he likes to try new things.

Said one source, according to FF: "No one knows what Russell is going to be like rapping—if he's as good as Eminem then it may well become a huge single."

Of course, we do have NSFW video evidence of Brand's hip-hop skills, which he displayed on his radio show in 2006 (covering Eminem's "The Way I Am"):
