Even decades after its initial release, Michael Jackson's album "Thriller" continues to see exceptional levels of success.

The lauded record debuted at the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart for the week ending December 3.

Following the Nov. 18 release of its 40th anniversary reissue, "Thriller" shot up from No. 115 to No. 7. Billboard reports that the album sold 27,500 equivalent album units, or 37,000 equivalent album units, in total.

The 9,000 SEA units have a combined 13.17 million official on-demand streams. The last time Thriller appeared in the Billboard top 10, it was at No. 8 on June 30, 1984.

The King of Pop's sixth studio album, spent 37 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 following its initial release in November 1983.

Seven singles from the album Thriller, which was executive produced by Quincy Jones, were included: "The Girl Is Mine," "Billie Jean," "Beat It," "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'," "Human Nature," "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)," and "Thriller." On the US Billboard Hot 100 list, all of the singles made it to the top 10, with "Beat It" and "Billie Jean" peaking at No. 1.

Album sales were also impacted by the title track's dramatic video.

"Thriller 40" contains unreleased songs recorded for the album as well as renditions of songs from the original Thriller album. Select shops including Target and Walmart also offered special edition vinyl and CD releases.

Additionally, the MichaelJackson.com online store is presently the only place to buy "Thriller 40" goods. The Jackson estate announced a partnership with Sony Music Entertainment to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Thriller with an official documentary as the record approaches its fourth decade.

Nelson George, a musicologist, is the director of the as-yet-untitled movie, which is now under development. The short films that were produced for the record and helped establish a new style of music video will be the main subject of the documentary. Archival interviews and never-before-seen footage will be included in the project.

Starting this November, a worldwide promotional effort for Michael Jackson's legendary album "Thriller" will feature fan gatherings and parties, immersive experiences, and screenings of the documentary "Thriller 40."

At the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, Sony Music and the late singer's estate previously revealed that "Thriller 40" would be released on November 18 to mark the album's 40th anniversary. From November 10 to November 13, the aforementioned immersive experiences will take place in Düsseldorf, Germany. From November 18 to November 20, they will take place in New York City.
