Kris Wu's life has been put under the spotlight following his sentencing.

Over a year since sexual abuse allegations were thrown at Wu, the Beijing court officially sentenced him to 13 years in jail due to two offenses. The charges were filed after he was found guilty of sexually abusing women between November and December 2020 and the "crime of assembling a crowd to engage in sexual promiscuity" in 2018.

As the search queries about the former K-pop idol continue to become a hot trend, here are the most-asked questions the public searches for.

Why Kris Wu Left SM Entertainment, EXO

Kris Wu, whose Chinese name is Li Jiaheng, started his career in 2012 as a member of the South Korean-Chinese boy group, EXO. He also led its subgroup, EXO-M.

He and the members immediately became one of the most popular K-pop boy groups to ever debut, scoring global attention with their hit albums and songs.

In 2014, he announced his departure from the group before the release of their "Overdose" album. He filed a lawsuit against his then-agency, SM Entertainment, to terminate his exclusive contract because the company reportedly never respected his opinions and thoughts about his health conditions.

The Korea Herald reported at that time that Wu noted he was treated like a "machine part" or an "object of control" while promoting the band. He also admitted not being able to fully adjust to the Korean training system.

"It is difficult to get used to the Korean way of life. Learning Korean manners such as bowing to Sonbae (senior singers) is especially tricky," Wu said in one of his interviews.

Tao, another EXO former member, expressed his anger after Kris Wu's exit, using words like "ambition" and "betrayal" in the Weibo and Instagram posts he made to target him.

Kris Wu's Abuse History

It all started in June of last year when photos of Kris Wu and a girl named Chen Ziyi together at a movie theater emerged. The embattled pop star reportedly rented the entire movie theater to enjoy their date.

While his agency urged Wanda Cinema to take responsibility for the spread of the photo, the 19-year-old Du Meizhu revealed the idol's sexual abuse and shared evidence to prove her claims. She revealed that Wu sent the same type of messages to other girls.

More revelations continuously came out, including his assault on three women. One of his victims, referred to as "A," resides in Los Angeles. She sought attorney Jing Wang's help as she revealed that she was also sexually abused by Wu a few years ago.

There was also an incident in 2018 when he and his colleagues assaulted two drunk women.

Fans Condemned Kris Wu's Horrifying Actions

After a year of investigation, the Beijing court sentenced Kris Wu to 13 years in jail. The tax bureau also ordered him to pay over $83 million for tax-related offenses. Per the authorities, he evaded taxes and had underpaid taxes in the past years.

Following the sentencing, internet users - who were once fans of the singer - condemned the musician.
