Scandinavia is almost holy ground to metal fans and Sweden turns out just as many bands as any other nation in the region. Two of the biggest, among both critics and fans, are coming together for a tour in North America beginning in December. Opeth and In Flames will serve as duel-headliners for the "Communion of Sirens" tour.

Neither band sounds particularly alike however. Opeth has always taken a more progressive approach to death metal, while In Flames is noted for its role in the melodic death metal scene. If you yourself aren't a metalhead, trust us: It's a very, very different sound. The title of the tour reflects the new albums coming from both bands. Opeth will release Pale Communion on August 26 and In Flames will drop its Siren Charms during early September. Opeth's vocalist and guitarist Mikael Akerfeldt promised in a statement that the band would be unveiling a new stage show designed around the bigger venues on the new tour.

The opening act will not be Swedish, alas, but Portland's Red Fang will bring yet another flavor to the tour with its sludgier, heavy metal-based approach.
