Kirk Hammett got tired of one part in Metallica's "Master of Puppets."

Released in 1986, "Master of Puppets" became a hit song again after it got featured on Netflix's "Stranger Things 4." The track was played during a scene when metalhead and club leader of Dungeons and Dragons Hellfire, Eddie Munson, played the song on his guitar to save his friends from Upside Down creatures.

It led the band to earn new fans and new records. But despite its popularity, Hammett revealed he already got tired of one part of the song.

Kirk Hammett "Bored" of Playing This Part of "Master of Puppets"

Guitar World shared an excerpt from Hammett's interview with Total Guitar for its upcoming April 6 issue. During the discussion, the guitarist expressed how exciting it is for him to do improvisation during Metallica's shows and concerts.

While he enjoys it, he also said he would love to improvise instead of playing the "Master of Puppets" guitar solo. Per Hammett, his statement might be hated by their fans.

"People love that guitar solo and they come to see that. That's fine. For that part of our career, all those solos are locked in. I don't view them as solos anymore; they're parts," he said. "I'm freaking bored of it, but it's exciting for people to hear."

He clarified his comments, saying that while he is not bored of the solo, he feels bored of playing it over and over again instead. He compared it to playing "Fade to Black," in which he plays the first eight bars before going on a tangent for a longer time and coming back in the last four bars.

For Hammett, not knowing what he is going to play is his favorite part whenever they play the song live.

Kirk Hammett Becomes Fan of Improvisation

Although the guitar solo puts the spotlight on him, Hammett declared he wants to offer a different and better sound live through improvisation. He then vowed to make fans hear it during Metallica's live shows.

"I can offer something different every time you see Metallica," he said. "When you buy a ticket to a Metallica show you're gonna hear different versions of the songs. You're not gonna hear carbon copy versions of the album."

Fans can see what Hammett has to offer during Metallica's scheduled 2023-2024 tour.
