In the music industry, once an already written song was rejected by an artist, it would immediately be passed onto someone who is willing to sing the track; this is what happened to some of the biggest hits that were supposed to be sung by Britney Spears.

Britney Spears Turned Down Some of the Biggest Songs

'Umbrella' by Rihanna and Jay-Z

According to The List, one of the biggest songs that the musician turned down was Rihanna and Jay-Z's "Umbrella."

The track became iconic as it sealed the Fenty Beauty founder's spot in the music industry and made her become a household name.

However, some fans didn't know that the track was originally offered to Spears, but she had to say no as she was under a conservatorship at the time.

Aside from her, the iconic song was also offered to Mary J. Blige, but she also turned down "Umbrella," leading it to go to Rihanna.

'Telephone' - Lady Gaga and Beyoncé

In addition, Lady Gaga and Beyoncé's massive collaboration "Telephone" was also written for the Princess of Pop and there's been a leaked demo circulating online of her version for years now.

The outlet noted that the Academy Award-winning singer, whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, wrote the song herself and it was pitched to Spears.

However, the pop singer and her management decided that the song was not for her, leading to the two musicians recording and releasing it.

A Trio Previously Turned Down Britney Spears' Song

In a completely different situation, there were also artists who turned down songs that eventually became a hit by Britney Spears.

In a previous interview with MTV News, TLC member T-Boz revealed that the song "...Baby One More Time" was offered to them.

"I was like, I like the song but do I think it's a hit? Do I think it's TLC? I'm not saying 'hit me baby.' No disrespect to Britney. It's good for her. But was I going to say 'hit me baby one more time'? Hell no!" she said.

Chili chimed in and noted that the group isn't just "passing up hits" then T-Boz noted she's clear that the song wasn't for TLC.
