Quincy Jones was recently rushed to the hospital after suffering from a "medical emergency" on Jun. 18, 2023. Apparently, Jones called 911 voluntarily, prompting paramedics to arrive at his Los Angeles home hurriedly in aid of the renowned music icon.

At 90, Jones is one of the producers of the upcoming "The Color Purple" movie musical adaptation of the Tony-winning musical. He, along with Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg, will be producing the movie.

Quincy Jones Health Update

According to a TMZ report, Quincy Jones was rushed to the hospital on Jun. 18, 2023, Sunday, after having a "bad reaction to some food he ate." The said medical emergency was lighter than many people have anticipated, given the musician's old age.

"Out of an abundance of caution he called 911 for help," the spokesperson told the outlet, meaning Jones called the helpline voluntarily.

During the entire trip to the Emergency Room, Jones' representative clarified that he never lost consciousness and was in "great spirits" until the doctors cleared him.

As of this writing, it was not known yet what the findings on his recent trip to the hospital were.

Quincy Jones Health Problems

This wasn't exactly the first time that Quincy Jones had suffered some health issues. As early as 1971, Jones said that he suffered a life-threatening brain aneurysm, causing him to have two surgeries that left him with six steel pins on his head.

He also has a history of mental illness in the family, as revealed in his documentary, "Quincy," as her mother had one.

"She was a brilliant woman who spoke several languages and had degrees from several colleges, but she had this condition that debilitated her, which today could've been controlled with medication," he recalled fondly. "But at the time, during the Depression, they simply would commit you."

In 2015, he also took a trip to the Emergency Room when he felt chest pains and shortness of breath in his home in California.

Quincy Jones 'The Color Purple'

Jones had been busy lately in the past few months because of the upcoming movie musical adaptation of "The Color Purple." After producing the music for its original 1985 film, Jones is returning this year for the movie musical to be a producer, along with Oprah Winfrey and then-director Steven Spielberg.

Fantasia Barrino and Danielle Brooks reprise their respective Broadway musical roles as Celie and Sofia, while Ciara and Taraji P. Henson play Nettie and Shug Avery, respectively.
