Fifteen years ago, Pink Floyd's founding member Richard Wright died.

Pink Floyd lost one of its founding members when Wright died on September 15, 2008. Although 15 years have passed, the band's fans still look back at his legacy and remembered his life on his 15th death anniversary.

What Was Richard Wright's Cause of Death?

Wright's publicist, Claire Singers, delivered the heartbreaking news about the musician's death, saying that he died in London after his long battle with cancer.

The then-65 year old music icon was working on his new solo album when he died from the dreaded illness.

"The family of Richard Wright, a founding member of Pink Floyd, announces with great sadness that Richard died today after a rapid battle with cancer," a statement from his family read. "The family asked that their privacy be respected in this difficult time."

His bandmate, David Gilmour, expressed his grief in a separate message in which he called the late founding member "gentle, unassuming and private."

Although he launched Pink Floyd's career, he was soon outshined by Roger Waters after he stepped up following Syd Barrett's departure amid his deteriorating health issues and controversial erratic behavior.

When he returned to the band, Wright reclaimed his spotlight but only had a reduced role.

He officially returned as a full-time member in 1994 to make "The Division Bell."

Richard Wright's Last Show

A year before his death, the keyboardist was still able to perform with David Gilmour in what became his last show.

Wright marked his last performance on September 6, 2007, at a surprise show at the Odeon cinema in Leicester Square. He eventually called the concert "the happiest tour" he had ever been.

Wright's death occurred two years after Barrett died from pancreatic cancer at the age of 60.

In one of his interviews, Wright revealed that the co-founding member was going blind because of diabetes.

"We don't see him, because apparently if he's ever reminded of Pink Floyd and when he was in it, he goes into a depression for weeks on end," he continued. "His mother asked us to stay away a few years ago. Apparently, most of the time he's quite happy, or was, but our faces can trigger off a lapse."
