The "Barbie" soundtrack is one of the most star-studded compilation albums and movie soundtracks in recent memory. Pooling big hitters like Dua Lipa, Lizzo, Billie Eilish, Ice Spice, and even Nicki Minaj in one album is a huge feat, and a superstar producer like Mark Ronson was behind it.

The Atlantic Records produced album has pulled great numbers, debuting at the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 chart. Evidently, many of the songs are huge contenders for the upcoming Oscars and Grammy seasons.

Barbie Songs For Oscars, Grammy Awards

Guild of Music Supervisors co-founder Jonathan McHugh gave his honest take to Variety on which songs should be considered for which categories in the upcoming Academy Awards season and Grammy nominations.

Among Hugh's picks were Billie Eilish's emotive "What Was I Made For," Dua Lipa's nostalgic funky pop dance anthem "Dance The Night" and Nicki Minaj, Aqua and Ice Spice's instant classic hit "Barbie World." Another stand out was Ryan Gosling's "I'm Just Ken," which easily sealed him a huge edge in the Best Supporting Actor category at the Oscars.

"Dua's is an incredible dance song, it's huge in the movie, and it's fun. I'm sure there are big calculations and consultations going on between people from the film, label, managers and others. Billie's song feels more like an Oscar-winner, but you never know - some people really love the Ken song," he said.

Hugh also pointed out that no pop artist has won the Best Original Song category twice, and given that Billie Eilish and Finneas won in 2021 for "No Time To Die," it's gonna be a "tall order" for the duo to bet that.

"Personally, I would try to put both [Eilish's and Lipa's] songs in play, but at the end of the day, it's what the studio and the label feel have the best shot to be nominated."

As for the Grammy Awards, Hugh believes that "Dance The Night," "What Was I Made For" and "Barbie World" could compete for Song or Record of the Year. However, Nicki Minaj, Aqua, and Ice Spice's proven successful collaboration "Barbie World" can also compete in the rap categories.

However, based on the Grammy's attitude against Nicki Minaj, it could be quite a battle.

Karol G's reggaeton banger "Watati" can also be submitted for Latin categories, per Hugh.
