Nicki Minaj has always identified herself as "Barbie." In fact, one of her rap alter egos is named after the famous Mattel toy. Her very loyal fan base are even named the "Barbz," for crying out loud.

After the casting for the "Barbie" movie came out, many fans were dismayed when they didn't see Minaj getting cast for a cameo role, not knowing that she was reserved for a bigger project - the soundtrack!

When Rolling Stone announced the artists working on the "Barbie" movie soundtrack, it broke the internet. Barbz were celebrating that Nicki Minaj was a part of it. When it was announced that she will be working with Ice Spice on reimagining the iconic Aqua "Barbie Girl" song into a new one, everyone was jumping in joy.

In a new report from Forbes, it was revealed that Nicki Minaj was the "top choice" for the "Barbie" movie soundtrack after all.

"We always wanted Nicki Minaj," "Barbie" Movie soundtrack Music Supervisor claimed in an interview. Aside from Oscar and Grammy-winning record producer Mark Ronson, Drakoulias was also behind the genius that is the "Barbie" movie soundtrack.

When they were brainstorming for artists to be included in the project, it was a consensus and a "top choice" that Nicki Minaj, the Queen of Rap, should be in it.

Nicki Minaj on 'Barbie World'

Drakoulias and the team wanted to incorporate Aqua's "Barbie Girl" on the soundtrack but wanted to reinvent it at the same time. Racking their brains out, they found a "brilliant way" and had Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice work on it.

The result was everything and more than they hoped for. "Barbie World," debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, the highest charting single of the whole album.

Notably, the song blasts as soon as the credits roll after the movie. Drakoulias admitted that "That was always kind of the goal - let's end with that."

Evidently, that decision was a major moment for audiences, as seen on various TikTok videos pointing out the huge switch of emotions from a melancholic ending to a party bop.

Reflecting on her addition to the soundtrack, Nicki Minaj expressed her appreciation to the team in an Entertainment Tonight interview.

"I am so excited to be here and be a part of this entire moment. I'm glad that they thought of me because I'm excited just like everybody else is excited to see this movie."
