Country singer-songwriter Daryle Singletary passed away unexpectedly in his home in Tennessee on Monday, Feb. 12. He was 46 years old.
The cause of his death has not been revealed as of this writing.
Life And Career
Singletary started making a name for himself in the '90s, after he moved from his home in Cairo, Georgia to Nashville, Tennessee. He signed with an independent record label called Evergreen Records in 1992 and released two singles.
After one of his heroes, Randy Travis, heard his song "An Old Pair of Shoes," which peaked at the 21st spot of the Hot Country Songs chart, Singletary signed with Giant Records. Travis, also a country music legend, co-produced his self-titled debut album in 1995.
Since then, Singletary released hit singles that entered music charts. His first track, "I'm Living Up To Her Low Expectations," hit number 39 of Hot Country Songs. A few months later, "I Let Her Lie" hit the number 2 spot of the songs chart.
Throughout his career, he released seven studio albums. His most recent record was There's Still A Little Country Left which came out in 2015.
Country music has, over the years, seen significant changes but Singletary stuck to his roots and became the champion of the genre's traditional form. In an interview in 2002, the singer said that his goal was to make the kind of music that he loved.
"I'm not trying to stand on a soap box or a pedestal. I'm just doing what I love to do," Singletary stated. "I just try to sing what comes from the heart. I've been fortunate enough to have people allow me to do it."
Outpouring Of Love
After news of his death broke out, fellow country musicians and fans sent their condolences and remembered the legacy he left. Craig Campbell, known for "Family Man" and "Keep Them Kisses Comin'," praised Singletary as "the greatest country voice" of his time.
Grammy-winning country music group Shenandoah also sent their respects on Twitter.
People who worked with the great talent also remembered their time with the traditional country singer and how he has affected their lives.
Travis, on his official social media page, paid tribute to his fellow country artist.
"I love Daryle Singletary's heart and soul; for life, for others and for true country music," he posted. "Co-producing his first LP was a highlight in my career. He is one of the best and made me a better artist. My love [and] prayers are sent to Holly and the family. [Thanks] for the memories, brother."
Singletary is survived by his wife, their two sons, two daughters, his parents, and his brother.
