Amy Winehouse might've been one of the most iconic musicians in the music industry, having a massive impact on many fans and a new generation of artists when she was older, but an old friend recalled her childhood as completely different.

Billie Piper recently sat down for an interview with Jessie Ware on her podcast Table Manners, in which she recalled how the late singer was being picked on when both of them were still studying.

The actress said she was 12 years old when she relocated to London and attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School; at the time, she became friends with Winehouse.

Sharing how the late musician was at school, Piper said: "She was always cheeky... She was always like that, you know. She would do abstract stuff, and I really loved it." (via People Magazine)

Piper continued praising Winehouse's uniqueness, saying she could do everything and was "unlike any other girl at that school."

Amy Winehouse Was Bullied at School

Even though the singer had exceptional talent amongst her peers at school, she also dealt with some problems, as other students treated her badly.

"She got bullied quite a lot at school because she was doing her own thing, and she liked to push buttons, and do weird stuff," Piper added.

Piper added that she had a lot of space for that experience, but not many of the girls from her school did, adding, "It wasn't the easiest ride."

Unfortunately, Amy Winehouse passed away in 2011 due to an accidental alcohol poisoning. She was only 27 years old.

Amy Winehouse Biopic

Amy Winehouse's life will be the topic of an upcoming biopic, Back to Black, starring Marisa Abela.

The film will revolve around the singer's story from when she was just starting out in the music industry to conceptualizing her album Back to Black, which pushed her into international stardom.

Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, the film will also star Bronson Webb, Eddie Marsan, Harley Bird, and Ansu Kabia. Matt Greenhalgh wrote the screenplay.

The synopsis read, "Told through Amy's eyes and inspired by her deeply personal lyrics, the film explores and embraces the many layers of the iconic artist and the tumultuous love story at the center of one of the most legendary albums of all time."

As of this writing, a release date for the movie has yet to be announced.
