Music fans just could not "Let It Go" in 2014. In an announcement that should have been no surprise to those following album sales in 2014, the soundtrack to Disney's Frozen was the best-selling album of the year on the Billboard 200, coming ahead of major releases from Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and Sam Smith.

The snowy animated film soundtrack started off the year strong, logging 13 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 in an otherwise empty music release landscape. Frozen has since become the longest best-selling Disney soundtrack, beating records set by The Lion King.

It was also the first album of the year to surpass one million copies in sales, though it would eventually be joined by Beyoncé and Swift's 1989, which were the second and third best-selling albums of the year, respectively.

Many albums in the top slots on the year-end Billboard 200 were actually released in 2013, including Eminem's Marshall Mathers LP 2, Lorde's Pure Heroine, One Direction's Midnight Memories and Katy Perry's PRISM, all of which landed in the top 10.
