We haven't heard very much at all from New York indie rock trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs since their 2013 album Mosquito, and according to lead vocalist Karen O, this is because the band is currently "on a bit of a hiatus." In a recent interview with NME, O revealed that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs currently have no plans to record another album, though they haven't actually split up.

"We're on a bit of a hiatus at the moment," she tells NME about the future of the band. "We have to wait to get the urge, get that itch. The time needs to be right and we're OK waiting for that, I think." When the band does eventually reunite, however, O imagines that they'll pick up right where they left off, saying that "it'll be like muscle memory, this unspoken thing between the three of us where it all just...locks in."

In the time since the last Yeah Yeah Yeahs album, Karen O released her first solo album Crush Songs, a lo-fi collection of original love songs that came out back in September. In addition to her full-length solo debut, O was also nominated for her first Academy Award earlier this year, for her song "The Moon Song" from the Spike Jonze film Her.

Later in her NME interview, O insists that the poor reviews the Yeah Yeah Yeahs received for their last album Mosquito has nothing to do with their hiatus or her solo endeavors. "It's a pretty dangerous hole to fall down, reading your own reviews," she says, "so it's not something I personally do. All you can is try to make albums that you can stand by and be proud of, that are a snapshot of where you were at the time. It won't stop us, nothing like that."
