While there seemed to be quite a bit of shock last week when Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton publicly confirmed that they have split after 13 years together, those close to the two likely expected it. Burton, who has been promoting his movie Big Eyes, first raised eyebrows in September 2013 when he was caught kissing a mystery blonde. While there was never confirmation that he had been caught cheating, it was a turning point in his relationship with Bonham Carter. The two reportedly split for good earlier this year.
While some media outlets have claimed that Bonham Carter is a mess over the breakup, sources for Page Six seem to indicate the opposite, saying:
"Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter announced the end of their 13-year relationship last week, but sources tell Page Six that they've actually been living separate lives for more than a year and that both have had other lovers."
A source tells us: "Tim and Helena have been living separate lives for [more than] a year, and since they separated, they have both had other lovers. The separation announcement was made saying they'd split earlier this year, but they have been living apart for much longer."
Despite some U.K. claims that Bonham Carter is in a "bad way" over the split, our source said: "Both parties are happy with the situation. It is perfectly amicable."
So apparently Carter has handled the split from the father of her two children well enough to be able to move on with another guy. Still, it always is awful to see a longtime Hollywood couple split. Since the typical celebrity longterm relationship seems to have a two-year shelf life, most of us really pull for those couples who seem to hold it together for the long haul.
