According to multiple reports, Alex Omes, co-founder of Ultra Music Festival has died at the age of 43. According to an NBC 6 Miami source, Omes died Tuesday in his home. The cause of death is still unknown.

The Miami nightlife veteran had been one of the most influential members of the clubbing and festival circuit in Miami. The most notable legacy that Omes will leave behind is the world famous electronic music festival, Ultra Music Festival, which was founded in 1999 and has since expanded in nine different countries worldwide including South Africa. Omes founded the festival alongside his partner, Russell Faibisch.

In 2010, Omes became at odds with Faibisch over Ultra's decision to separate from Winter Music Conference, the week of parties held in Miami leading up to Ultra Music Festival. Two years later, he sued to regain control and continued to claim co-ownership.

In 2011 and 2012, he continued to host events around the city, including some with Swedish House Mafia, as well as a new music festival UR1 with Kanye West & Lou Reed which had to be canceled due to poor ticket sales. He hosted events at clubs around the city as well.

Kind words and support have been pouring in from across the internet from friends and those who knew Omes.

The festival has not released a statement yet about the passing of Omes, but we will keep you posted any additional updates on the situation.
