Things are not well in the New York hip-hop family. Two of the biggest players in the community, Jay-Z and Funkmaster Flex, are at odds over actions reportedly taken by people at Jay-Z's site Life + Times. There appears to be more at stake here, though. According to a report on mediatakeout.com, citing a "rock-solid source," Jay-Z is a part of a group of investors that includes New York Knicks basketball star Carmelo Anthony who are currently in negotiations to buy Hot 97. According to the site, both sides are serious about getting the deal done. Hot 97 is the radio station where Funkmaster Flex has his own radio show.

Such a deal would be the ultimate power move, one that leaves Flex with only one play of his own — to buy the station on his own — but he probably does not have the capital prepared to make a deal. Hot 97 is owned by public media conglomerate Emmis Communications, headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The beef came to light in a long, explosive rant — could not help it and neither could he — on Hot 97 a few days ago that has become a major talking point in the hip-hop community.

"Let me be clear, because I read through everything in that email that was sent to me, I don't care about your website," he said to Jay. "Your website's trash. Y'all can't move with me in this digital space. Maybe if y'all copied everything I was doing with the app, your app wouldn't have crashed the day your album dropped. Don't play with me. I didn't take no sides in that situation. Play me like I'm stupid and you're gonna see a different kind of dude firing off on you. I let you live in this town, don't think I can't ruin you."

He continued to go off on Jay by calling out HOV for a text he sent to Flex in an Instagram post, but with the current reported media buy, Jay-Z may have the last laugh in this situation because he will be top dog if this deal goes through.
