Fall Out Boy is looking to have its new album American Beauty/American Psycho to go down in history for "Centuries." And on the album release date, there's little promotion better than stopping by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which is exactly what FOB did last night (Jan. 20). To celebrate the release of AB/AP, the Chicago rockers took to the late night stage for a performance of "Centuries" and also gave a little insight into the track in a behind-the-scenes video.

After being introduced by a blue blow up suit donning Jimmy Fallon, Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz and co. were on hand to perform their album's lead single, and it was just as intense as "Centuries" itself. Fall Out Boy pumped up the guitars and backing instruments for "Centuries," offering up its loudest performance of the track on TV to date. Add in some invigorating energy from the whole band, and the song certainly lives up to its epic lyrics.

Though Fall Out Boy were on hand on TV just to perform "Centuries," the band offered some additional insight about the single online. In the running The Tonight Show series "How We Wrote That Song," FOB detailed the process behind "Centuries."

After joking around about the detailed "process," Stump eventually opened up about the track, keying into the very prominent use of sampling in the song (which uses Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner").

"We wanted to try something different with utilizing samples, because that's kind of a no-no in rock 'n' roll and we thought that was silly. There should be no nos in rock 'n' roll, it should be 'yes-yes,'" he said.

The band also brings in the lyrical use of traveling and being inspirational for the other half of the song.

And, "Centuries" was born.
