David Duchovny recently announced that he's working on an album of folk-rock music titled Hell or Highwater. The album will be out May 12 via ThinkSay Records, Consequence of Sound notes. The announcement comes on the heels of some other big news for Duchovny -- he will reprise his role as Fox Mulder on The X-Files later this year.

"Making this record is a dream come true, but I never had this dream - it's still a shock when I think about how all this music happened," Duchovny wrote in a press release. "What I do know is that I feel these songs represent the truest expression that I've ever been able to achieve and I look forward to sharing it with everyone."

The actor has been on a creative hot streak recently. He released a novel, Holy Cow, in February and May will mark the premiere of his NBC show, Aquarius. A month later, Duchovny will start filming The X-Files for FOX's six-episode run. He'll be concentrating on the music until June.

"I'm learning what it's like to sing with a live band, how close to be to the mic, learning about singing, period," he says. "It's a journey of discovery for me. I hope that I get to discover certain things before the audience does, so it's not too painful."

Duchovny spoke to The New York Times (via Screenrant) following the news about The X-Files revival, talking about his and co-star Gillian Anderson's acting chops.

"I think we've both gotten better as we've gotten older, so how do we bring that to bear on these characters? If I were to look back at the first or second year of the show, I wouldn't try to act like that guy. I'm capable of doing more. She's capable of doing more. It'll be interesting to see how we keep the characters the same but also the actors are better," he said.
