We told you guys awhile ago that it looked like Alison Sweeney was going to work out a deal that would bring her back onto the Days of our Lives canvas just in time for the shows 50th anniversary celebration and it has actually happened. Sweeney herself confirmed the news by posting a photo of herself on Instagram holding her Days' script.

Sweeney will be joining the likes of Peter Reckell and Stephen Nichols who are also returning for the festivities. Days' has always embraced the idea of bringing back some of its' most beloved stars and core characters for various holidays and celebrations so it makes sense that they are pulling out all of the stops for the 50th anniversary show which will air in November. We also know that because they tape so far ahead, those scenes are likely to actually be filmed this summer. There are no details as of yet about how long Sweeney will be sticking around, but fans are no doubt hoping that it's for more than just a scene or two.

Sweeney left the show last fall after 21 years and Days' has continued to steadily decline ever since. A new writing team is now in place but they are left scrambling because NBC will decide in January whether or not to renew the soap. As of now it's looking pretty unlikely because the ratings are dropping on a weekly basis.

What can Days' do to save itself fast? Would signing actors like Sweeney, Reckell and Nichols to even short 3-month contracts help to reel old fans back in? Do you think that NBC even has any interest in trying to save this daytime classic, or is it really just too late for this daytime classic? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
